Kookaburra is the world’s largest supplier of cricket and hockey balls, and their Dimple Elite MK hockey balls were used exclusively at the Rio Olympic Games. The ball featured a micro-foamed core co-developed with Pacific Urethanes.

Kookaburra collaborated closely with Pacific Urethanes to create a polyurethane solution that met the FIH’s stringent performance standards and the expectations of elite players. The Dimple Elite MK ball was made with a golf-sized solid PU core, wrapped in cork and worsted yarn to form a unique multi-layered design. A polymer casing was then injection-moulded around the core to give the ball its distinctive dimpled appearance.

Pacific Urethanes developed specialised formulations for this challenging application to ensure optimal performance. In addition to on-field performance, elite players rely on both sight and sound to judge the ball’s speed and trajectory. After over two years of development and 14 different formulations, Pacific Urethanes and Kookaburra successfully created the Olympic-standard hockey ball featured at the Rio Olympics. Both companies are proud of this achievement in crafting a world-class product.
